In 2018 while bike riding with his mate Don MacKee, Ian Hutchinson (‘Hutch’) had a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and was dead for 18 long minutes.
Thanks to some quick thinking by Don and with the help of bystanders, 000 (911 in the United States) was called, CPR commenced and Hutch became one of the lucky 9% to survive an out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest.

Robert Kabera is a native of Rwanda, where he and his family lived through the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. He and his family spent 6 years in refugee camps. He was 11 when they were resettled in Memphis, Tennessee. After Stanford, Robert founded alternative credit rating agency Credimarks, with the objective of helping to extend credit into traditionally underserved markets — poor people.

RJ Jackson has spent most of her life jumping, running, and walking, then, a major car accident left her wheelchair bound for nearly two years. That was not her first acquaintance with a wheelchair. RJ also graduated from high school in a wheelchair. Life has presented itself to her in many forms of trauma. Several times death knocked on her door and God told hell no on her behalf. RJ overcame many obstacles that were meant to kill her including being diagnosed with Lupus. She is not known as The Courage Giver for nothing! Like you, RJ has a story. It was a cold Thursday in January a few years ago when Gloria Battini packed her bags and walked out of a 14-year-old manipulative relationship. She had accomplished so much in the previous 18 months of self-development and inner work, she felt strong, empowered and free.
Today Gloria sees the women she worked with making life-changing decisions that they wouldn't have dreamed of at the start of their journey. She sees them show up for themselves and transform the way they face the world. In November of 2004, Caroline Rose was in the very best shape of her life. A few months prior, she had run her fastest marathon in San Diego, beating out all of her previous six finishing times in Austin, Nashville, Dallas, New York, and Boston. One month prior, Caroline had completed the Los Angeles Triathlon, finishing in the top bracket in her age division. She was even in the process of training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with her brother.
Then Caroline’s entire world was turned upside down.
While getting bloodwork and the necessary vaccinations for an upcoming trip to Africa, it was discovered her platelets were at a life-threatening level. Within 18 hours Caroline was diagnosed with highly aggressive, incurable stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Arjan was working as Head of Mission for “Doctors without Borders,” when Muslim rebels brutally kidnapped him in the Republic of Dagestan situated in Russia’s turbulent North Caucasus. Guarded by heavily armed men in masks, Arjan spent twenty months (607 days) in a dark cage measuring five feet by six feet with nothing but insects and rodents as cellmates.

Louise Sertsis has MS for over twenty years and have been on long term disability for thirteen of those years. After going through a very dark point in her life where everything seemed impossible and hopeless, she was able to emerge with a sense of purpose and excitement for the future. She felt reborn and ready to start living once again. She started Advanced Freedom and created the Handi Pac! Advanced Freedom is driven and inspired by the lives of people with physical disabilities. Her mission is to create functional and accessible products for people with physical disabilities.
